Name: Gina del Rosario-Martin
What Gina has done as a GABRIELA member:
- Coordinated several events.
- Partnered with Lulu to speak at Shoreline Community College about Human Trafficking.
- Attended Gabriela events and conferences in Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York.
Reason for Joining: I met with Joanne to see if she could speak to the youth group at my church about Pinay sa Seattle (now Gabriela Seattle). By then end of the meeting, I was signing up to be part of Pinay! All along, I think I knew I wanted to be part of an organization like this – that served people and fought all levels of discrimination and oppression. I continue to do this today in a social advocacy group through Faith Action Network.
Things she’s good at: coordinating events, cooking, fashion production, and being a parent to Oliver.
Why this work is meaningful to Gina: This work is meaningful to me because it has given me a space and a sense of security of who I was as a young Filipina. It also connected my faith journey to the important social justice work I loved to do in my community, especially as the youth director at my church.
When she’s not working for the movement, where can we find Gina / what can we find Gina doing? If I’m not at home running after my active 1 year old, I’m either eating, sleeping, at church, out and about, sewing or producing something creative for work.
