Name: Karly Feria

What Karly has done as a GABRIELA member: I am the Vice Chair and participate in the Campaigns Committee. I have supported cultural events through video and photography as well as performing with the Pin@y Choir, in the One Billion Rising dance and Reverse Money Dance performance. I have also helped to facilitate educational discussions both internally and for the larger community.

Reason for Joining: I joined because I was interested in connecting with an organization that was doing amazing work around social justice and human rights for Filipin@s globally and locally. I wanted to connect to my roots in a meaningful way and participate in the work for human rights.

Expo Trip Dates: Hopefully in the near future 🙂

Things she’s good at: videography, photography, writing, youth development, project management

Why this work is meaningful to Karly: This work gives me a way to participate actively in the things that I believe in and am passionate about. It challenges me to continue learning, growing, and participate in the movement towards change.

When she’s not working for the movement, where can we find Karly / what can we find Karly doing? You can find me at a high school in South King County helping youth gain access to college and career opportunities, biking around the community, finding stress relief in the gym or hiding behind a good book.

* Karly has been serving as the Vice Chair of Gabriela Seattle since May 2014.
