Name: Lori Penor

Member Since: January 2012

What Lori has done as a GABRIELA member:

  • “One Billion Rising” flash mob at Seafood City
  • Created “Reverse Money Dance” with Diwang Pin@y Crew
  • Marched with Gabriela Philippines on Women’s Day
  • Brushed up my Tagalog and Ilokano

Reason for Joining: The Halong Report Back, Nov. 2011, got me hooked and I can’t think of a more meaningful way to spend my time.

Expo Trip Dates: March 2014 with baby in tow

Things she’s good at: snail mail, puzzles, counseling victims of violence and other things that don’t require a lot of technology.

Why this work is meaningful to Lori: Being in this movement has really opened by eyes to ways people and community make change. It challenges me to think more critically at the world I was given and one that I want to give my son.

When she’s not working for the movement, where can we find Lori / what can we find Lori doing? Learning new words in different languages at Refugee Women’s Alliance, and cycling with Mateo.

* Lori has been serving as the Finance Officer of Gabriela Seattle since May 2014.
